All Leaders Are NOT Treated The Same

As an American who loves our freedoms and the health and welfare of democracies across the world, I was anxiously watching the post election coverage in Israel last Tuesday night. Imagine my elation when there was a resounding Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu victory.

As I listened to conservative talk radio Wednesday Sean Hannity made mention that President Obama had yet to call and congratulate the re-elected Prime Minister. This got me to thinking – are all leaders who win elections in the world called by the current President of the United States of America?

After the election of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, President Obama called. This was an historic event because this broke a three decade silence between the leaders of our countries. The last President to call an Iranian President was President Carter in 1979 .

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan received a phone call from President Obama after his sweeping victory with 52% of the vote in Turkey.

Confirming the joint commitment to Egyptian – American relations and shared interests President Obama called President Abdel Fattah al-SiSi after he was sworn in to office.

While aboard Air Force One, President Obama called President Vladimir Putin of Russian to congratulate him on his re-election.

There are other incidents of President Obama calling world leaders to congratulate them on their elections This includes other leaders of Egypt, China and Saudi Arabia.

So why did it take President Obama two days to call Prime Minister Netanyahu? It may be because President Obama sent Jeremy Bird to Israel to boost the support for the left-wing. Mr. Bird was a key operative in President Obama’s grass roots organization. His involvement in the Israeli elections was thru a program named Victory 15 and prompted 20 GOP House members to send a letter to One Voice regarding the influence and activities of Bird and Victory 15 in the Israeli elections.

It could be President Obama is acting like a pentulant child after Bibi won this re-election contrary to Obama’s wishes and this seems to be the popular conservative opinion.

This concern now appears to rising amongst Pro-Israel supporters. The administration has floated the idea of lifting sanctions on Iran in spite of clear violations of the current sanctions. Iran began testing single advanced centrifuges last year and the administration made excuses for Iran rather than impose further sanctions.

In stark contrast it looks like Obama may suggest imposing sanctions on Israel at the U.N. Council. This appears to be an idea to force Netanyahu back to the negotiation table for a two state peace negotiation.

Regardless of the the President’s reasons, it is obvious from history not all world leaders are treated equally. We as Americans should take note of this and make our satisfaction / dissatisfaction heard before it is too late. We may find our allies are our enemies and our enemies are our conquerors.
